Moraine Lake
And the Valley of the Ten Peaks

PAGE 11
It seems everyone has a favorite lake in the Canadian Rockies. It might be Pyramid Lake above the town of Jasper, aqua-blue Maligne Lake and its mystical Spirit Island, Lake Louise and Victoria Glacier above it, Peyto Lake and its pristine isolation or magnificent Moraine Lake. You are sure to come away with a magical "post card" image of the most perfect lake etched into your mind. You will never forget it. The Rockies will call you back.

Driving south from Jasper you come to the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) and just before you come to Lake Louise is the turnoff east to beautiful Moraine Lake.

Located in the shadows of the "Valley of the 10 Peaks" you can see the colossal glacial activitiy as rocks, forestal debris and silt are piled high. A Moraine, after which this lake is named, is a mass or ridge of rocks deposited at the foot or side of a glacier after being carried down or pushed aside by the incredible weight of the glacier.
