Cave and Basin Trail
CAVE AND BASIN 1

The Cave and Basin Trail is rated fascinating!

This is a terrific hike you can easily do from Banff town or you take a shortcut and drive up to the Cave & Basin visitor center, park and walk the trail.  The visitor center is off Cave Avenue west of the bridge on Banff Avenue.

A boardwalk starts you off crossing a tiny stream which is fed by Sulfur Mountains hot springs further up the hill.  The boardwalk will accompany your feet to lookout on the marsh's edge.  The warm waters here convince a bevy on animals to spend the winter who might otherwise travel south or hibernate.  Robins, blackbirds, teals, killdeer, Clarks Nuthatchers, bluejays, kinglets and yellowthroats all thrive here. The trail loops back to the Cave & Basin visitor center in time for you to consider another Banff area hike?
