The Cave and Basin
National Historic Site
Two surveyors were "tipped off" to the existence of hot springs near a cave, where the surveyors enjoyed their first hot bath in months. Visit the sight and you can continue on to Sundance Canyon trail (a 2 mile walk) that offers great views of the Bow River

Banff Townsite

Banff is situated at the junction of the Bow and Spray Rivers, sitting comfortably between Sulphur and Tunnel Mountains. To the east is Rundle Mountain, which is also noticeable as you approach Banff on the Trans-Canada highway from the west. Even if you are not staying at the Banff Springs Hotel you should visit this magnificent structure. In behind the hotel is Bow Falls (33 feet). Interesting to note is that the falls and river are bisecting two very different rock formations, one of which is 70 million years older than the other. Sulphur Mountain Gondola is an abosolute must-see.

Within town are several very tastey restaurants and jewelry officionados will not want to miss out on buying Amelite jewelry. This comes from ancient fossils which are only found in Alberta and quite rare.

MUSEUMS
Banff has several interesting museums including the Banff Park Museum (natural history), Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies (human history) and Luxton Museum (native history)
